I composed Sonatina in 2017 and dedicated it for my friend, Balint Fabry, a hungarian bassoon player. After I heard him play on his concert to get his master's degree in Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, I decided he now deserves to have his own piece of music addressed just to him.
I would compare Sonatina to a Kyrie prayer of the Mass-liturgy – structurally (Kyrie-Christe-Kyrie) and also in it's essence. In the beginning it has a stage of despair, then comes the struggle to get through with the ongoing, and it ends with altered state of mind adjusted to the circumstances; as the melody in the bassoon adapts to the harmonies of the piano, and finds some sort of peace. It's crying out and letting go.
