The Bendigo Law Courts will realise a state-of-the-art regional building that puts people and community first with facilities that are anchored in Bendigo's heritage and Dja Dja Wurrung culture, Bendigo's Traditional Owners.
The design is inspired by the city's skyline and heritage, and civic development. The building is informed by the cultural imagery and knowledge of the Dja Dja Wurrung, and the physical environment. John Wardle Architects and landscape architects ASPECT Studios have worked closely with DJAARA to bring these ideas to life in the future court's design including:
A representation of creation being Bunjil, soaring four levels high in the building's copper fabric, enveloping the corner facade of Hargreaves and Mundy Streets
A welcoming courtyard will be paved to symbolise a smoking ceremony
Landscaping to symbolise the distinctive granite outcrops, water features and native flora of Dja Dja Wurrung Country.
