📔 Chapter Description:
Genesis 14 recounts the first great war recorded in the Bible. Four powerful kings, led by Kedorlaomer of Elam, march against five rebellious cities, including Sodom and Gomorrah, after twelve years of submission. The invading coalition defeats the five kings in the Valley of Siddim, plundering the cities and taking captives — among them, Lot, the nephew of Abram. Upon hearing this, Abram gathers 318 trained men and launches a daring night attack, defeating the enemy and rescuing Lot along with the others. On his return, Abram is met by Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of God Most High, who brings out bread and wine and blesses him. In response, Abram gives him a tenth of everything. When the king of Sodom offers Abram riches, he refuses, vowing not to take even a thread — so that no one could say, “I made Abram rich.” This chapter reveals Abram’s courage, faith, and integrity, showing his refusal to rely on earthly power and his full devotion to the God who delivers.
