Our 1982 Hayashi 412f competing in the VARA 50th Anniversary of Formula Ford at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, California.
Qualifying Second for the Race with only the practice and qualifying to get the car tuned. We had the car set up with the same setup sheet from a 1983 race at willow. The last time we raced the car was at the SVRA Open Wheel World Challenge in June of 2017 at Indianapolis.
The car worked really well in the race, we definitely could have used a lower first gear for the start as I got annihilated losing several positions. On the pace lap I was waving at Candye Rucker flagging at T3 whom I know from Cal Club SCCA and my good friend Bob Ericcson watching trackside.
During the race the leader Brian Britton drove his 2000 Van Diemen flawlessly never making a mistake and getting through all the traffic clean. I had a great time pushing the Hayashi hard and trying to figure out how to get by the leader. Bringing home a solid second we had a great time attending the event.
