“As for the aid, we received a large and enormous amount from most of the areas far and near the city. We collected them in our distribution center here, divided them according to the family’s needs throughout the week, and we created a distribution mechanism. We communicated with needy families near and far from us. God willing, we will have fulfilled our duty to the fullest extent, and God willing, every needy person will receive his share.”

STORYLINE:
Leaders of the Scouts and Guides Commission, from all Libyan regions, continue to participate in several initiatives aimed at searching for bodies and contributing to humanitarian relief in the stricken city of Derna.
Scouting commissions, from the cities of the West, East and South of the country, have been sending convoys loaded with various relief materials and food supplies to the city of Derna on a daily basis since the beginning of the disaster.
These efforts come as part of an effective response to the challenges facing Derna after the wave of floods it witnessed this week, which claimed thousands of lives and thousands are still missing.
Volunteers also work to provide support and assistance in providing basic services to Derna's population.
Meanwhile, Libyan authorities have opened an investigation into the collapse of two dams that caused the devastating flood in the coastal city that killed more than 11,000 people.
It’s unclear how such an investigation can be carried out in the North African country, which plunged into chaos after a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi in 2011.
For most of the past decade, Libya has been split between rival administrations — one in the east, the other in the west — each backed by powerful militias and international patrons.
One result has been the neglect of crucial infrastructure, even as climate change makes extreme weather events more frequent and severe.
