Somerset Hard Roadbook - 249KM - I woke up in a field only a few minutes from the start point so I took moment when I got up to go and wash in a stream, have a bite to eat, do some bike maintenance and then move off to the start. I felt a little tired starting but I knew it would be nothing compared to how I i would feel by the end of this series.
The navigation got a bit harder with this one where some sections would focus on for lack of a better description was like micro navigating. It was a long day but some of the sections where nice and long where you could carry plenty of speed. The bikes fan stopped working and the bike kept overheating, I think I was lucky enough and didn't cause damage, I had to go and find a garage to replace the coolant that boiled out twice and I had to play a balancing act for the rest of the day keeping the bike moving quick enough for air to cool it but not too much to over heat it.
Once finished I headed off to a location closer to the start of the next days route and found another place to set up camp finding a fuel stop for the bike and myself on the way.

"What is the SW Super 8?
Our summer series, known as the SW Super8, incorporates eight digital roadbooks across four counties in the southwest. The roadbooks will be split into four easy to navigate routes and four that will test your navigational skills more. Each county will host one easy and one moderate roadbook." (direct extract from Xplore roadbook's site. https://www.xploreroadbooks.com/ )
So i decided to do this series last minute when i found out i had some leave from work. I booked onto the series, downloaded the app, messaged the organizer to ask how short a period of time it could be done in then loaded my bike up and set off. There where 8 roadbooks, I gave myself 7 days to complete them and didn't book anywhere to stay, I brought with me a poncho, bivi bag, American blanket (woobie) and a change of clothes. I wild camped every night, found local shops to eat and drink in and only came off the routes to get fuel if required.
From my calculations the road books totaled 1395Km / 866 miles but adding in the distance from my house, linking all the routes together and getting back home again I covered 2758Km / 1714 miles. Lets not talk about cost of food and fuel.
I had never really explored the SW area of England before so it was good to see but i will have to go back to really appreciate all these locations.
A big thank you to Xplore roadbooks and TRBP The Road Book Project for putting this together, they have raised the bar in the UK, jeep your eyes peeled for future events!
