For observing the P1 signal. My smart meter is a (D)SMR4.x version and will send a message every 10 seconds.
In device manager I check which compoort the USB to RJ11 Serial uses.
In Putty I set it at serial which compoort and set the baudrate to 115200 and then open the viewer.
This can be used locally to see if the P1 signal can be used for a charging station.
At a charger, you can repeat this action to see if the message is still correct. If bits are missing or white blocks appear, then the signal is distorted and may no longer be usable.
