This video is pure nostalgia but contains information on steps to take in order to connect, login, retrieve messages, read them and send messages out.
At 0:52 you noticed the staggered / jumbled text messages when I connected to my gateway?
Text was all over the screen and this drove me nuts for a few days.
I found a solution. This was not a problem with the gateway configs or the MFJ-1278 TNC.
It was a simple configuration option from minicom 2.9 that I was missing.
To solve it, I had to enable carriage return in minicom (option T).
