The victims belonged to businessman Rajender Kashyap’s family, living in a four-storey building that housed a cloth and cosmetics showroom on the lower floors. The fire, suspected to have started due to a short circuit, spread rapidly, trapping residents on the upper floors. Around 20 fire engines, ambulances, and disaster response teams were deployed, but rescue efforts faced delays, with eyewitnesses raising concerns over inadequate hydraulic ladders. Two family members escaped with injuries, while the rest, including children and elderly, could not be saved. The tragedy has once again highlighted serious fire safety concerns, prompting Delhi Chief Minister to order a magisterial probe into possible negligence.
