The media keeps showing airports as chaotic, overcrowded, and out of control — but our real experience flying from Indiana to Dallas to Arizona tells a completely different story.
I was concerned enough to call the Indianapolis Airport the night before our trip. Despite everything on the news, the agent told me there were no delays expected for the morning. She was right. When we arrived at 8AM, there were fewer than ten parties in the TSA line, and our family of five cleared security in under eight minutes.
While we were at the terminal, an airport employee told us they hadn’t seen any flight cancellations during the entire shutdown and that the media was mostly showing the worst-case airports. Our layover in Dallas was the same — full, but calm and organized, with zero sense of chaos anywhere.
This video is a reminder not to rely only on national headlines. Always check your specific airport, because the reality on the ground may be far smoother than what you’re seeing on TV.
We’re flying back on Monday, and I’ll post another update so we can compare the return trip.
