Parastas Memorial Service — UGCC SingCon 2025 — Galician Chant

Описание: Parastas (Memorial Service) celebrated on Saturday, October 25, 2025, during SingCon 2025, the Ukrainian Greco-Catholic Church Singing Conference. In the Orthodox liturgical tradition, Saturday is the principal day dedicated to the commemoration of the departed, when the Church gathers to pray for the repose of all who have fallen asleep in Christ.

Parastas is the solemn memorial service of the Byzantine tradition. Through psalms, hymns, and prayers—especially the chanting of Psalm 118, the Evlogitaria for the Departed, and the Canon of Theophan (for the Departed)—the Church commends the faithful departed to God’s mercy and prays that they may find rest among the saints in the light of the resurrection.

The liturgical responses were sung by participants of SingCon 2025—cantors, choir directors, clergy, and singers from across North America—gathered to pray together and cultivate the tradition of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic church singing in English.
