I integrating hidden power sockets directly into one of the metal legs of my workbench!
Follow along step-by-step as I fabricate a custom metal housing from square steel tubing to hold standard electrical outlets. You'll see the entire metalworking process, including:
-Precise marking and layout on steel tubing.
-Cutting the metal components using an angle grinder.
-MIG welding the housing pieces together.
-Grinding and finishing the welds for a smooth look.
-Creating a functional hinged cover plate.
-Cutting the opening in the existing workbench leg.
-Welding the custom housing into the leg for a seamless installation.
-Final finishing for a professional, concealed result.
This project involves metal cutting, welding, grinding, drilling, and tapping – a great demonstration of practical metal fabrication skills. The end result is a super clean and convenient hidden power source, keeping cables off the benchtop. It's a fantastic way to upgrade a standard metal workbench!
I hope you enjoy this build and find it useful or inspiring for your own workshop projects.
