India-Kuwait defence cooperation has received a major boost with the inaugural India-Kuwait Joint Defence Committee meeting held in New Delhi on August 28, 2026. The development comes just one day after Kuwait signed the Protocol Agreement-2026 with Pakistan to expand military cooperation, including training, capacity building and border management.

In this video, we explain India-Kuwait defence ties, the India-Kuwait Joint Defence Committee, the Pakistan-Kuwait defence pact and the larger geopolitical significance of Kuwait’s simultaneous engagement with India and Pakistan.

India and Kuwait agreed to deepen cooperation in military training, joint exercises, military medicine, staff talks, defence industry and research & development (R&D). The meeting also operationalises the objectives of the India-Kuwait Defence Cooperation MoU signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024.

The India-Kuwait relationship was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in December 2024, adding greater significance to the latest defence dialogue. India’s engagement with Kuwait also has implications for Gulf security, maritime security, defence exports, strategic partnerships and India’s broader West Asia policy.
