Description

Stoneware steins are highly unusual, less than 10% of the regimental steins are made of stoneware. More unusual or rarer yet are those with music boxes. This artillery stein issued to Fahrer (or driver) Haller is both stoneware and has a working music box. Reservist Haller served in the Third Bavarian Field Artillery garrisoned in Munich from 1909 to 1911. Prince Leopold was the honorary chief of this unit. This third Bavarian stein has survived over 100 years and a California earthquake, which caused a relatively minor base hairline. One small flake on the base driving band. The lid is relatively tight. There is no fading to the roster. The stein features a glass stanhope in the thumblift, but the picture is gone. The cone of the lid unscrews also.
