You don’t have to be a Christian to appreciate the passion and the love that went into these beautiful bronze sculptures. The enormous cross which stands at the center of this art installation is a worthy beacon drawing in both the saved and the heathen like me.

When the cross was first constructed, it was the largest of its kind. Now a larger cross, elsewhere in Texas, has taken the title. One thing is for sure, if you are driving down I-40 you can’t miss it. It is said to be most beautiful when lit up at night. Maybe on one of our future trips across the country we’ll have a chance to find out.

It was my father (Mr. McGee’s father-in-law) that first let me know about this stop along I-40 in Groom, Texas. He and my mother visited on one of their many trips. I remember him telling me that he wished he had a nice 35 MM camera to take pictures of the different sculptures. So, when our route had us driving right past the Cross at Groom, we made a point to stop by and take pictures for him. Fortunately, we were able to share these images with him in May before he passed in September.

The video is rather long and for that I apologize. I tried to take the walking tour as well as incorporate some still photography. Walking video is not my strong suit. Anyway, the project ended up much longer than I had anticipated.

UPDATE: Originally, we created these videos from our vacation footage to share with Kim's family. The videos you see from Nov 2021 to Apr 2022 are those videos. However, with the passing of Kim’s father (from whom we developed our interest in travelling and who's footsteps we hope to follow) we have lost our primary fan. Moving forward we hope to connect with like-minded people who might also enjoy discovering the beautiful places we are fortunate to visit.

Starting in April of 2022 videos will be created with a YouTube audience in mind. With that said, we have invested in new video and sound equipment and will give more detailed information about the places we visit.
