Semarang City (Javanese: Hanacaraka: ꦯꦼꦩꦫꦁ, Pegon: سماراڠ) is the capital of Central Java province, Indonesia. It is the fifth largest metropolitan city in Indonesia after Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung and Medan. In recent years, Semarang's significant development has been marked by the emergence of several skyscrapers scattered across the city and the structuring of the city with the construction of pedestrian-friendly places. Bawen (Javanese: ꦩ꧀ꦧꦮꦺꦤ꧀, translit. Mbawèn) is a sub-district in Semarang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. It borders Bergas sub-district to the north, Pringapus sub-district to the east, Tuntang and Ambarawa sub-districts to the south, and Bandungan sub-district to the west.

Bawen is predicted to become the capital of the new Semarang Regency."[1]

Bawen is an industrial area that absorbs employment in the vicinity including Coca-Cola, Apac Inti Corpora, Star wig, and others. The sub-district is at the crossroads of the country to Solo and Yogyakarta.

In this area there is a terminal Besar which is a stopover for Solo, Yogyakarta, Semarang, and Purwokerto buses so the terminal is very crowded. Near the Bawen terminal is the Semarang - Solo toll exit which makes the town even busier.

For tourism, this sub-district has Semilir Hamlet. As for plantation tourism, there are many plantations that gave birth to argotourism, including Banaran. This area is also included in the development of Semarang smart city district[2] by the government. The toll road passes through Bawen sub-district, which is precisely in Lemahireng Village and Kandangan Village.

The Trans-Java Toll Road stretches between Merak Port, Cilegon, in Banten Province to Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi, in East Java Province. This toll road network connects the two largest cities in Indonesia, Jakarta and Surabaya via toll roads. This ±1,167 km toll road network is included in the Asian Highway 2 (AH2) or Asian Road Network that connects the Asian Continent from Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia to Khosravi, Iran. On December 20, 2018, Jakarta to Surabaya was officially connected to this toll road[1].
