Landscapes and Seascapes of the islands of the South West Pacific Ocean. My Father Captain Malcolm Rose navigated with a sextant, this was the time before commercial GPS devices. Many islands where we found save anchorage, were the first to be visited by a sailing yacht, from outside the archipelagos. We had old maritime charts created from the 1st and 2nd world Wars. Many island atolls at this point in time, were incorrectly positioned, on the charts. So sailing during the day was essential, to visually navigate in some areas.
This is a document of just some of the adventures we shared on a six month journey in these remote outstandingly beautiful parts of Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Filmed with a Fugi Video 8 camera and a Sony underwater housing. Now transcoded to digital media. We were Lucky to spend this time exploring these remote waters snorkelling and scuba diving; Within pristine coral reefs - in the mornings and evenings, after finding save anchorages. Also venturing into the interior of some of the islands and very importantly spending time with the very kind native people we met.
