In this video, I’m not here to attack it or rehash everything that happened. Instead, I talk about what it did to my ability to think for myself — and how deeply that affected my inner life.
One of the most damaging aspects for me was the constant monitoring of thoughts. We were connected to lie-detector–type machines and questioned until any “wrong” or negative thoughts were uncovered. Over time, that created a quiet but persistent fear of thinking at all. I learned to doubt my own inner voice.
What I’ve come to understand since leaving is that cults aren’t always obvious — and they aren’t limited to religion. Many belief systems, movements, and even social structures can slowly train us to hand over our inner authority.
