This series takes place in the newly launched Ascendancy expansion, which is accompanied by patch 2.2.0 and the Perandus League. There are a lot of new things, which I am going to explore through the lens of the Marauder class.
We wield a two handed mace, and use the new Area of Effect melee skills: Sunder and Earthquake. The goal is to stun most enemies using brutal explosive effects. We will be accompanied by an Ancestral Totem and a Stone Golem. We're going life + armor for defenses, with a strong emphasis on Endurance Charges. Our Ascendancy class will be the Juggernaut, which enhances both our offense and defense.
My build intends to use the following skills:
Earthquake: An initial small AoE attack does good damage, but after a short delay half the screen will explode as the actual Earthquake hits.
Ancestral Protector: a melee Totem, which enhances our attack speed while we are nearby.
Stone Golem: a melee golem that has a life regeneration aura, taunts monsters and rolls over them to inflict some damage.
Leap Slam: for getting out of trouble, or into it.
Enduring Cry: generate / refresh Endurance Charges when fighting a boss, or when facing a large pack without having charges up.
Blood Rage: extra attack speed, frenzy charges and life leech at the cost of some physical damage per second that we can easily out-regenerate.
Enfeeble + Blasphemy: enemies in (melee) range hit less often, for less damage!
Hatred: deals more damage than Herald of Ash, and helps your golem and party mates! (Almost) makes me regret picking Resolute Technique, because critical cold damage = freeze!
Previous skills I used or considered:
Sunder: Splits the ground and causes shockwaves at each monster that gets hit. It is very useful as a leveling skill until you get Earthquake, after that it has a minor role as a ranged melee skill, but not enough to warrant using in my particular build.
Endurance Charge on Melee Stun: caring about Endurance charges and having stun efficiency skills, this seems like a no-brainer to get them while fighting enemies. After you get Warlord's Mark and Enduring Cry, you no longer need this. It's awesome in the early game, though.
Warlord's Mark + Blasphemy: generate endurance charges by killing enemies. Also generates a LOT of mana early in the game.
Arctic Armour: physical and fire damage reduction while you are standing still, which is when it matters: attacking, stunned or frozen. Replaced by Enfeeble + Blasphemy for melee range safety against all damage types.
Herald of Ash: if you're going to do massive damage, you are bound to kill monsters with lots of overkill damage. Using it to set their buddies on fire sounds right to me.

Bandits: Oak on Normal for the 40 HP, help Oak on Cruel for the damage, help Oak on Merciless for +1 Endurance charges.
