It has been four years since the closure of Istanbul Ataturk Airport to commercial traffic. The airport closed on April 6, 2019 when commercial airline operations were moved to the new Istanbul airport. This spotting location at the FlyInn Shopping Centre was a fantastic spot to take photos, videos, and soak up the action right by the runway. Situated in Florya, this was an excellent spot that attracted enthusiasts from all over the world to spend time on this amazing balcony. Here we are in 2023, and 4 years have passed since this airport formally closed and it is unfortunately now a shadow of it’s former self as this video shows. Now a hospital is being built at the site of the runway, and the distant runway is still in use for business and government flights only, with very few minute movements during the day. I hope you find my video informative as it’s only a matter of time before all vestiges of aviation are removed from the site. Filmed and reported by Henry Tenby.
