🏃♀️ RUN or LIFT? 🏋️♂️
💡 The real question is — why not BOTH?
Many people think running and weight training are opposites, but in reality, they complement each other beautifully when done correctly. As a physiotherapist, I often see people choosing only one and missing out on the full benefits.
🔹 When you RUN:
Running helps build a strong aerobic base, improves heart and lung health, boosts stamina, and enhances overall endurance. It trains your body to use oxygen efficiently, improves circulation, and supports mental health by reducing stress and anxiety. Regular running also plays a key role in improving speed, coordination, and overall functional fitness.
🔹 When you LIFT:
Strength training builds muscle mass, increases power, strength, and speed, and improves joint stability. It strengthens muscles, tendons, and ligaments, which is essential for injury prevention. Lifting also improves posture, bone density, metabolism, and helps correct muscle imbalances that often lead to pain or injuries—especially in runners.
✨ The magic happens when you COMBINE both.
✔ Better running form
✔ Fewer injuries
✔ Stronger muscles
✔ Improved performance
✔ Long-term joint health
Running without strength can increase injury risk, and lifting without cardio may limit endurance. A balanced approach keeps your body strong, fast, and resilient.
⚠️ Remember:
Exercise should always be goal-oriented, properly planned, and technique-focused. Wrong form or overtraining can do more harm than good.
📌 If you’re confused about how to balance running and strength training based on your body type, age, or injury history—professional guidance matters.
Stay active. Stay strong. Train smart. 💪
