Released in 1997, Nuclear Strike is the action-packed sequel to Soviet Strike. Some notable additions include: adding a compass and radar on the SMFD (Strike Multi-Function Display), and the new-old ability to fly/drive multiple types of aircraft and vehicles. The overall difficulty is lowered from earlier installments, and not to mention the story is significantly more lighter and straightforward than Soviet Strike (ever notice the lack of appearance from the security czar?) However, the game is still a fun, action-packed romp!

Just like before, I've compiled all of the FMVs and Mission videos into a single, continuous video. All videos are ordered chronologically, as well as by INTEL - ASSETS - ENEMY - MISSION. I've also included three "EXTRA" videos: a trailer for Future Strike (which would turn into Future Cop:LAPD), a beta version of the intro (note the music and sfx difference), and what I believe to be the E3 Demo's ending teaser (it's noteworthy that the in-game "LIGHTNING" demo shows the Future Strike trailer at the end, perhaps as an oversight?)

Just like before, the cast and crew have done some amazing work. They've added some interesting additions to the cast, such as Moon Bloodgood (in her first role, she would later to play a role in Terminator Salvation), Philip Tan (A prolific stuntman who would next year play the chased-waiter in Lethal Weapon 4) and Bo Hopkins (who's appeared in over 100 films and television roles.)

Interestingly, a lot of the live-action shots of the Apache during DELTA STRIKE and Earle's Strike File are from the movie "Fire Birds" (or "Wings of the Apache" internationally) starring Nicholas Cage and Tommy Lee Jones. I never noticed until now.

As for the technical side, the videos themselves are again in two different dimensions: Campaign Intro and Trigger FMVs are in 320x224, and the in-game menu videos are in 224x160, all running at 15 FPS. I've once again upscaled everything to 1980x1344 (a 6x upscale), in order to give the videos the closest thing to 1080p that their ever gonna get. [320x6=1980 | 225x6=1355] I've rendered everything at 30FPS so that YouTube wouldn't wouldn't lose it's marbles over a weird framerate.

Just like last time, I was also debating on applying noise reduction and a little deblocking, but all of my attempts yielded less-than spectacular results, so what you see is the original videos, with some upscaling work done to them.

Audio-wise, the balancing is significantly better than last time. Everything is now mixed at a consistent (if loud) level, so I didn't have to do any crazy balancing this time. Everything is at a -6.0 d.b. base, and run through a custom limiter.

Interestingly, I've found some additional footage on disk that I've never seen before. There are a few "production movies" of the crew blowing up cement blocks (possibly for LeMonde's death scene) and shooting a flamethrower in the air at different times of day (probably for misc. VFX.) I haven't included them here, but it was an interesting find nonetheless. There's also a fully rendered video for a cut BM-21 enemy for the DMZ STRIKE mission, which I have included. I also noticed that at the beginning of the "Shiva's Dagger" enemy file, there's a quick frame of the title and description denoting the properties of the CGI video. (Another oversight? Or perhaps left in because it looked cool?)

Also, I couldn't rip the mission file for the "Shiva's Dagger" mission from FORTRESS STRIKE. No matter what I did, the decoder/encoder I was using couldn't read the data for it. My guess is that my Nuclear Strike disk is just too old and scratched up. I mean, nearly 25 years is a long time! Anyway, the enemy video for Shiva's dagger more than covers for it, so I guess it all works out in the end haha.
