The Austin Tengbeh (also referred to as Austin Aus) case involves the tragic death of a 26-year-old Liberian national following a mob attack in Lashibi, suburb of Accra, Ghana, on February 27, 2026.
Tengbeh, a resident of the Spintex area and a technician by profession, had visited a residential property in Lashibi to see a fellow Liberian.
The Trigger: Reports indicate the incident began after a light-hearted joke or comment made by Tengbeh to a pregnant woman was misunderstood. Despite an apology, the woman alerted security.
Mob Attack: An alarm was raised—allegedly by the apartment caretaker—falsely accusing Tengbeh of being a thief. This led to a pursuit and a brutal assault by a mob, resulting in severe internal injuries.
Death: Police responded to a distress call and transported Tengbeh to the Sakumono Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Legal & Diplomatic Actions
Arrests: The Ghana Police Service has arrested four suspects in connection with the murder.
Vincent Adzikah (38), Francis Amuzu (44), and William Addison (34) were the first three apprehended and appeared before the Baatsonaa District Court on March 2, 2026.
The fourth suspect, Enoch Mensah, was initially at large but has since been apprehended.
Embassy Involvement: The Liberian Embassy in Accra is actively engaging with Ghanaian authorities to ensure due process and has provided consular support to the bereaved family.
Government Stance: The Liberian government expressed deep condolences and urged the Liberian community in Ghana to remain calm while investigations proceed.
