Last boat project video we fixed five things on our boat for under $30 each.
This week… one system cost us over $1,500 — and it still didn’t work.
In this video, we dive into the grossest project we’ve tackled so far: fixing our marine toilet system. What started as a simple macerator pump replacement turned into a full-blown head overhaul, including:
A new Groco macerator pump
A new tank level monitor & pump-out panel
A Jabsco manual toilet pump assembly (upgrading from the old non-locking handle)
And yet… the pump kept refusing to run consistently.
The plot twist?
The pump wasn’t the problem.
The monitor wasn’t the problem.
The toilet wasn’t even the problem.
The real culprit was the old, corroded wiring we reused instead of installing the brand-new wiring that came with the tank monitor kit. Once we replaced the wiring, the electrical issues stopped and the pump-out finally worked the way it should.
If you’re troubleshooting a marine head that keeps acting possessed after replacing parts, this video may save you a lot of money, time, and very unpleasant cleanup.
This is the full story of how a “simple” toilet fix became a $1,500 lesson in marine toilets and electrical systems — and why sometimes the smallest overlooked component causes the biggest headaches.
Have you ever chased a problem that turned out to be wiring instead of the equipment itself?
