Parents at home and in prison talk about the impact of release on the family. The video shows how prison release preparation programmes can help prisoners think about their children’s needs. The video shows how family support services can be especially helpful to families at this time. Families and support workers talk about the tensions and adjustments that families face on release. One particular concern is the possible effect on boys who may see going to prison as a normal way of life.

Boys whose parent has been imprisoned are more likely to become offenders themselves.
Release may be a time of greatest support need for families.
Mainstream family support services could be used more effectively to help families in these circumstances.
