🎬 EP32 — Dopo migliaia di chilometri nel deserto africano, non immaginavamo che la prova più snervante ci aspettasse davanti a uno sportello postale. L’impiegata è “momentaneamente assente” — uscita a fare la spesa — e restiamo sospesi per due giorni tra timbri, attese e il sole di mezzogiorno che batte sull’asfalto.

Fuori ci aspetta uno degli angoli più luminosi dell’Oceano Indiano, tra le spiagge tropicali delle Seychelles.

A un certo punto bisogna scegliere: continuare a rincorrere la burocrazia o lasciarsi attraversare dal ritmo dell’isola?

Facciamo quello che forse avremmo dovuto fare subito. Torniamo al mare.

Le Seychelles non sono solo spiagge da cartolina — anche se sembrano disegnate con precisione perfetta. Sabbia dorata, palme inclinate dal vento, alberi di takamaka che proteggono la costa tutto l’anno. La fermata dell’autobus è lì, il parcheggio pure, ma non c’è mai affollamento. Qui il tempo non accelera: si dilata.

Si parla molto del mare delle Seychelles, ma il vero stupore inizia appena si alza lo sguardo verso l’interno dell’isola di Mahé e delle altre isole granitiche. Sono avvolte in un verde profondo e stratificato, quasi irreale per chi arriva dall’aridità africana. L’arcipelago ospita oltre duecento specie native, molte endemiche. Foreste di palme e pandani fino ai seicento metri, sottoboschi di felci e piante ombrofile che conservano l’umidità come un respiro trattenuto.

Più in alto, le foreste nebulose: alberi avvolti da muschi e licheni, felci arboree immerse in un silenzio che custodisce alcune delle specie vegetali più rare del pianeta.

Tra queste c’è il leggendario “albero medusa”, sopravvissuto con pochissimi esemplari selvatici sull’isola di Mahé. Nascosto in habitat montani difficili da raggiungere, fragile e tenace allo stesso tempo, racconta meglio di qualsiasi guida quanto delicato sia questo equilibrio.

C’è tempo per esplorare ogni sentiero.
Ma prima bisogna imparare a restare.

Alle Seychelles non si corre.
Si osserva.
Si aspetta.
Si respira.

Qui il viaggio non è avanzare.
È fermarsi ad ascoltare.

The day we stopped chasing and started walking

💬 Sometimes the choice is simple: leave the paperwork behind and follow the sea.

🎬 EP32 — After thousands of kilometres across the African desert, we never imagined our most exhausting challenge would be a post office counter. The employee is “temporarily absent” — gone grocery shopping — and we remain suspended for two days between stamps, waiting lines, and the midday sun beating on the asphalt.

Outside, one of the brightest corners of the Indian Ocean awaits us, among the tropical beaches of the Seychelles.

At some point you have to choose: keep chasing bureaucracy or allow yourself to be carried by the rhythm of the island?

We do what we should have done from the beginning. We return to the sea.

The Seychelles are not just postcard beaches — even if they look perfectly designed. Golden sand, wind-tilted palms, takamaka trees protecting the coast all year round. The bus stop is nearby, the parking lot as well, yet there is never any crowd. Here time does not accelerate: it stretches.

People often talk about the sea in the Seychelles, but the real wonder begins when you look toward the interior of Mahé Island and the other granite islands. They are wrapped in deep, layered green, almost unreal for those arriving from African aridity. The archipelago hosts over two hundred native species, many endemic. Palm and pandanus forests up to six hundred metres high, dense undergrowth of ferns and shade-loving plants that preserve humidity like a held breath.

Higher still, the mist forests: trees covered in mosses and lichens, tree ferns immersed in a silence that shelters some of the rarest plant species on Earth.

Among them is the legendary “medusagyne” tree, surviving with only a handful of wild specimens on Mahé Island. Hidden in remote mountain habitats, fragile yet resilient, it tells better than any guide how delicate this natural balance truly is.

There is time to explore every trail.
But first, you must learn to remain still.

In the Seychelles, you do not rush.
You observe.
You wait.
You breathe.

Here the journey is not about moving forward.
It is about stopping to listen.
