Honoring Paul Elmstrand, Matthew Ruge, and Adam Finseth: Heroes Killed by Gunfire During a Domestic Ambush and Rescue
On February 18, 2024, these three first responders were killed in the line of duty under the following circumstances:
The Call: Responding to a domestic disturbance involving a man barricaded in a home with seven children.
The Ambush: After several hours of negotiation, the suspect opened fire on the responders without warning.
The Sacrifice: Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge were shot while trying to resolve the situation, and Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Finseth was shot while attempting to provide life-saving aid to the wounded officers.
Note: While the community often refers to them as the "three fallen officers" in general conversation, it is vital to remember that Adam Finseth was a firefighter and paramedic who died alongside the police officers in an act of ultimate bravery.
