Harvesting Sand From The Mississippi River Banks

Описание: Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.🍀 Would like to welcome you each on another adventure. It's a beautiful sunny and cool day so we are heading back to the Mississippi River Sandbars to harvest some sand to add in to my soil mixes to help with drainage.

River Sand is a great soil amendment for gardening and landscaping as it helps relieve clay soils from becoming compacted, and improves water and air infiltration. Now with this being said you have to be careful how much you add so it doesn't become to well draining and cause more damage than good.

Especially when working with clay soils you want to add more compost with some sand mixed in to break it up really good. Just have to work with your soil and get to know what you need amendment wise to find a good balance. It can be done and it's not hard to do. The reward in the end will be well worth it.

This mineral Rich sand is going to last a long time here and definitely will be added to my citrus tree soil as well as a good draining seed starting mix.

Hope this video also encourages you to also learn more about finding natural resources around you. Just learn what information on the internet is good solid information or scare tactics to make you spend money on amendments that you don't need.
