Beaches: Trevaunance Cove is the main beach, popular for surfing and rockpooling. Chapel Porth is nearby, renowned for its dramatic scenery and National Trust ownership.

Mining Heritage: The area is steeped in history, with remnants of tin and copper mines from the 18th and 19th centuries scattered along the cliffs, particularly around Wheal Coates.

Village Atmosphere: "Aggie" (as known locally) has a thriving community with independent shops, galleries, craft workshops, cafes, and pubs.

Chapel Porth is a dramatic,, National Trust-managed cove on Cornwall’s north coast near St Agnes, renowned for its rugged beauty, expansive low-tide sandy beach, and iconic clifftop mining ruins. Nestled in a narrow valley, it offers excellent surfing, rock pooling, and dramatic, heather-topped scenery, making it a popular, picturesque destination. 

Key Features and Highlights:

The Beach & Tide: At high tide, the beach is a small, stony cove that can nearly disappear. However, at low tide, it reveals a vast, sandy expanse that connects to Porthtowan.

Wheal Coates: The iconic Towanroath Engine House sits on the cliffs directly above the beach, offering a stunning backdrop and a reminder of Cornwall’s mining heritage.

Surfing & Safety: Known for great, powerful surf, it is popular with surfers, but carries risks of strong currents, large breaking waves, and being cut off at high tide. RNLI lifeguards patrol in the summer.

Amenities: Features a popular National Trust café famous for its "Hedgehog" ice cream (clotted cream and hazelnuts), along with toilets and a car park.

Access: A narrow road leads to the car park, but accessing the sand involves a short walk over pebbles and rocks, which can be difficult for some.

Dog Restrictions: Dogs are banned on the beach from 1st July to 31st August (10 am – 6 pm). 

The area is also a prime spot for walkers, with access to the South West Coast Path offering spectacular views toward St Agnes Head.
