My 24 gallon reef tank was perfect... Almost two years running and no nuisance algae of any kind. Then I added two small PJ cardinalfish and a cleaner shrimp. Bam, hair algae everywhere! I'm trying to get rid of it naturally! Scroll down for the stock list!

Video Description:
We are almost done with the new My First Fish Tank Studio/Gallery. For 2021 we are going to try our best to put out two videos every week. Every Tuesday will be an update from the studio, and every Friday will be a piece of beginner content.

For our first ever gallery Tuesday, we have to grapple with my old foe, hair algae. I hate hair algae, and am terrible at defeating it. In fact, I've never really ever defeated it. So this time around we are going to try something new.

I can't make hair algae disappear. It's in the tank. So even if I use some sort of product like Razor, it will temporarily disappear, but then come back. I need a more permanent solution, and that has to be a clean up crew.

My usual snails are just not up to the task, so we are going to try some new additions. Lots more hermit crabs (various sizes and types), more snails (astrea), an emerald crab, and two urchins. I'm doubtful that this is going to help or work.

The problem is the size of the tank? How to you keep nuisance algae, especially turf or hair algae at bay in a small tank that can't house tangs? I just don't know! So I'm going to try all sorts of different clean up crew members to see what works.

This may take a few months, but I'll keep trying until I figure it out!
