Post-surgery treatments such as chemo or radiotherapy, also known as adjuvant therapy, are measures taken to protect patients against cancer recurrence. One type of adjuvant therapy, called hormone therapy, focuses on shorter intervals of higher doses of drugs such as tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors, which are sometimes used in conjunction with one another.
Typically, 5 years of tamoxifen is sufficient for most patients as long as their cancer wasn't overly aggressive. Sometimes aromatase inhibitors are prescribed for an additional 5 years depending how the patient responds.
