Global Forum 5: A Flourishing Life/Positive Psychology Ryan McElveen, Phillip Hui, Dengting Boyanton

Описание: How to create a global village where all human beings at various stages can thrive and flourish? What will an ideal global village look like where all lives flourish? How should we reform our education/curriculum to ensure a flourishing life from womb to tomb?

In this session, Mr. Ryan McElveen, founder and managing director of the Global Leaders of Fairfax County program in Virginia, will share his experiences on how to empower the future leaders (age 12-18) by pushing for improved curriculum internationalization, expanding world language education, encouraging civic engagement activities – the first effort of its kind in the nation, acting as the change agents in their local community, and becoming global citizens in the world.

Dr. Phillip Hui, founder and director of the Lifewell Learning Institute Los Angeles, will share the practices he implemented to help seniors (age 65 up) to live a happy and flourishing life. Specifically, he will introduce The WISE Path, a Strategic Direction and model that he developed himself. W stands for Wisdom, I stands for Intergenerational, S stands for service, E stands for empowerment. ABCD Living model (active, balanced, connected, and disburdened).

Dr. Dengting Boyanton, founder and director of the Flourish Positive Psychology Institute (FPPI), proposes a new model of positive educational K-16 program (age 3-18). The whole curriculum was developed based on the metaphor of “the life of a tree” first proposed by Seligman (2011), founder of positive psychology. Seligman states that the ultimate goal of education is to enable the tree to grow, develop, flourish, and be fruitful (2011). hypothesize that through a systematically integrated step-by-step educational program, teachers will be able to address the developmental needs of students to best help them grow, mature, and flourish.
