Bought a cheap ($25) 2 in 1 pin and pinless digital moisture meter off amazon to get a ball park idea of where some of the first wood I milled was at. Most of the wood (ash, poplar, white pine) I tested was milled 8-9 months prior, hemlock was about 4-5. All wood was rough cut 1x except the live edge red oak slabs which were about 2.5 (those didn't make it inside). Was about 10 degrees outside when I tested the wood and am guessing it's why the pin style didn't work. Brought the wood into the basement for a couple days to make sure it wasn't frozen. Numbers were a little all over the place but the pin and pinless both worked inside. Upside is it's very cheap and easy to use device. Downside is the accuracy which the instructions say a +/- 4% margin, so it truly is a ballpark. Still learning and still having fun and just trying to take the more affordable route first.
