psb have recently planned and implemented a high-performance system extension, consisting of a shuttle warehouse with 10.000 storage locations for cartons and directly connected rotapick high-performance picking systems. Core of the existing system is a two-aisle automated small parts warehouse, connected with 16 order picking stations supplied by more than 800 static and dynamic flow channels and a pallet warehouse for replenishment with integrated control system for VNAs.

In the new shuttle warehouse 20 vario.sprinter shuttles (dedicated to each level) store and retrieve the storage cartons lengthways up to three items deep. Among the highlights are the three tote lifts of the system that are laterally integrated and by which the warehouse supplies the rotapick high-performance picking systems with source totes, and takes them back again within very short time.

At Kräuterhaus, the three rotapicks are used as a buffer for source cartons with A and B articles. They hold up to 60 cartons and provide these cartons to the employee to take out the goods. Orders that have to be completed by C-articles are additionally routed to the stations of the flow racks and then transported to the packing station.

The psb Warehouse Management System selektron controls the entire system, complemented by selektron SCADA, which is in charge of system diagnosis and maintenance support as well as the operational control of the system.
