What makes Black lights so unique?

There actually not very different from your common light bulb or even a candle’s flame. It’s all electromagnetic radiation

Most of us see black lights used to verify currency, driver’s licenses, or stamps at amusement parks and clubs.

But backlight doesn’t reveal the invisible, it is the invisible

A violet phosphor coating is added to regular bulbs, which absorbs visible light waves.

It’s also why black lights glow purple and are very hot

What escapes is Ultraviolet or UV light, invisible to the human eye, and the same radiation from the sun that burns us.

Black light causes anything with phosphor to fluoresce or glow.

Even Bug zappers emit UV light because Insects can see it, and are attracted to it.

Low power black lights are safe for your eyes & skin but high powered UV tanning requires protection.

LOTS of things have phosphors, like most laundry detergents, which makes white clothes glow extra bright under backlight, milk, and even blood after it’s been cleaned up, thank you CSI.

And if you’ve ever seen UV light used on hotel sheets, Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy put it best,

“If I had a black light, this place would look like a Jackson Pollock painting” and that’s scienceN60.
