ECI Seizes ₹650 Cr Ahead of Polls, Cracks Down on Cash, Liquor & Freebies

Описание: As India heads into crucial Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has intensified its crackdown on illegal inducements—seizing over ₹650 crore worth of cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals, and freebies.

The action comes after the poll schedule was announced for key states including Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, along with by-elections in other regions.

With the Model Code of Conduct in force, the Commission has deployed:

Over 5,100 flying squads for rapid response
More than 5,200 static surveillance teams for ground checks

Seizures are being tracked via the Electronic Seizure Management System, allowing real-time coordination among agencies.

The Commission has also held high-level review meetings with top officials, signalling a zero-tolerance approach to ensure free, fair, and inducement-free elections.

As the electoral battle heats up, this crackdown highlights the scale of money power—and the efforts to curb it.
