Описание: The pace was on from the start of the 1961 Pacers' Final. It was apparent that False Step had added 12 yards to his 48 yard handicap when he swung out at the start, was faced with an extremely difficult task. Recovering like the great horse he was, False Step straightened up for home wide out with Massacre coming fast even wider and Arania diving for a gap on the inside. Arania drew up to False Step and Massacre and the three fought out a battle royal. False Step and Massacre flashed past the post together and only a neck ahead of Arania. Doug Watts, Massacre's driver, congratulated Cecil Devine on his success as they returned to the birdcage. But the camera had the last say, and False Step, though he had won three New Zealand Cups, had been denied the victory that would have capped his great "Down Under" career.
