Tips to help protect and save Monstera plant from the harsh summer heat:
1. Move It to a Cooler Spot
• Avoid direct sunlight: Monsteras naturally grow under the forest canopy, so direct summer sun can burn their leaves.
• Ideal location: Place your Monstera near a bright window with filtered light (sheer curtain) or move it outdoors only if it’s in full shade.
• Indoors: Make sure the plant is away from hot windows, walls, or appliances that radiate heat.
2. Adjust Watering Schedule
• Water deeply but less frequently: In summer, water thoroughly when the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry. Avoid shallow watering, which doesn’t reach the roots.
• Morning watering is best: It gives the plant time to absorb moisture before the heat peaks.
• Check drainage: Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot, especially with increased watering.
3. Increase Humidity
• Mist regularly: Light misting in the mornings can help maintain humidity without soaking the plant.
• Use a humidity tray: Place the pot over a tray filled with water and pebbles (water shouldn’t touch the pot base).
• Humidifier: If indoors with AC, a humidifier can help maintain optimal humidity (50–60%).
4. Monitor for Leaf Burn
• Brown, crispy edges: A sign of sunburn or heat stress. Trim dead parts to prevent stress.
• Move away from intense light immediately if you see damage.
• Don’t over-fertilize in summer, which can worsen leaf burn.
5. Repot or Refresh Soil (if needed)
• Avoid repotting during peak heat: Repot only if absolutely necessary. Disturbed roots are more vulnerable to heat stress.
• Top dress with fresh soil: Add a layer of compost or fresh soil on top to replenish nutrients without shocking the plant.
6. Keep an Eye on Pests
• Heat-stressed plants attract pests like spider mites and thrips.
• Check undersides of leaves weekly and use neem oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
7. Protect During Heatwaves
• Shade cloth or sheer curtains: If outdoors or near a sunny window, use shade cloth to diffuse harsh light.
• Group with other plants: This helps increase ambient humidity and provides some mutual shade.
Final Tip:
Stay observant. Sudden yellowing, wilting, or spotting are signs something’s wrong. Early action is the best way to save your Monstera from lasting damage.
