Many people don’t realize this, but your dog could bankrupt you.
Recent statistics show that dog bites cause about $1 billion per year in damages, and over $300 million is paid out by insurance companies each year.
A child’s face is the most common area of the body that is bitten by dogs. Claims made by those injured average over $26 thousand dollars per incident.
More than 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs each year. Out of those 4.7 million bites, about 800,000 require medical attention.
About half of the dog bite hospitalizations are for children. Senior citizens are the second most treated for bites.
Most bites occur on the owner’s property. Insurance companies estimate and about one third of all homeowner claims are for dog bites.
