At 8h00 last night SIM ice rescue crews performed a sensational rescue near the frigid waters of Riviere des Prairies in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They received the call for a person on the ice and engaged a full ice rescue response. Upon arrival at the corner of Gouin and Salaberry, firemen deployed a sled loaded with equipment. Four crews linked by a rope ran towards the river while pulling the sled across a park in the snow. They met with police and ambulance crews that were already on scene only to keep running on the ice and towards the victim. The entire time crews showed relentless efforts and rushed towards danger in hope of saving the victim. Upon arrival to the victim, the first rescue technician shouted to order a spinal board to be brought in. Crews rapped the victim in a blanket before loading him onto the sled to carry him back to shore. In matter of minutes, exhausted rescue crews had brought the patient back to shore, relaying him to fresh awaiting fire fighters. Out of breath, they asked their colleagues on the shore to take the package and to carry him to an awaiting ambulance. These new firemen pulled the victim on the sled back across the park and into the hands of awaiting paramedics. The patient was then loaded into the ambulance and was carried away followed by SPVM police officers.

À 20h hier soir les pompiers du SIM ont performé un sauvetage sur glace sensationnel près des eaux glacées de la Rivière des Prairies à Ahuntsic. Ils ont initialement reçu un appel concernant une personne sur la glace et donc engagé un sauvetage sur glace. À leur arrivée au coin Gouin et Salaberry, les pompiers ont déployé un traîneau remplis d'équipement de secours. Quatre membres de l'unité ont ensuite traversé un parc attachés l'un à l'autre et tirant le traîneau dans la neige vers la rivière. Ils ont d'abord rencontré des équipes d'urgence déjà sur scène seulement pour continuer leur course à pied sur les glaces. À leur arrivée près de la victime située environ à 100 mètres du rivage, ils l'ont protégée dans une couverte et installée sur une planche dorsale. Ils ont ensuite tiré le patient en courant jusqu'à la rive, avant de le remettre à d'autres pompiers. On pouvait les entendre hors de souffle demander l'aide de pompiers frais pour prendre le relais afin de tenter toute chance de sauver la victime. Ces pompiers ont à leur tour tiré le patient à travers le parc et vers une ambulance. Ce dernier a ensuite été pris en charge par les ambulanciers qui l'ont transporté à l'hôpital suivie de deux voitures de police du SPVM.
