The omicron strain of COVID-19 is still being researched and the impact of omicron is still to be determined. But the stock market had its worst day in 2021 on the news of the omicron strain of COVID-19, with the S&P500 falling more than 2.25% and the Dow Jones falling more than 900 points.

Investors are re-allocating into “stay at home” company names such as Peloton and Netflix, while abandoning names like Carnival Cruises and Delta Airlines. The ten year treasury yield fell more than 16 basis points, with gold and bitcoin climbing on the safe haven asset trade.

Pfizer has stated that it will know much more about the omicron strain in the near future.
