STORYLINE:
The Thai cabinet has chosen a brother-in-law of ousted former leader Thaksin Shinawatra as the country's acting Prime Minister, following the judicial sacking of Samak Sundaravej.
Somchai Wongsawat will be in charge until an emergency meeting of the Parliament elects a permanent premier on Friday.
The ruling coalition will name its candidate for the post at a news conference on Thursday in Bangkok.
There is speculation that it might be Somchai himself, or his cabinet colleagues Sompong Amornwiwat and Surapong Suebwonglee.
It could even be Samak Sundaravej; the court's ruling that stripped him of his position did not ban him from holding it in the future.
