Fromm's Escape from Freedom is presented as a landmark study of Freudian Marxism. Fromm's ideas are reviewed, especially positive and negative freedom, social character, the three regions that mark a healthy modern person (work, play, love) and the three escapes from freedom: authoritarianism, destructiveness and automaton conformity. This video focuses on the opening chapters and ends with discussion of sado-masochism's link to authoritarianism.
