Medicare changes every year—and 2027 may bring important updates to premiums, prescription coverage, provider networks, copays, and additional benefits.
In this video, licensed Medicare advisor Nathan Wright explains what Medicare beneficiaries should review before the upcoming Annual Enrollment Period. Whether you have a Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage plan, or standalone Part D prescription drug plan, understanding your 2027 coverage can help prevent costly surprises.
HERE’S WHAT WE COVER:
🔹 MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTS
Medicare Supplement plans generally provide broad provider access and more predictable medical costs, but premiums can increase over time. Nathan explains why reviewing your current premium and available options remains important.
🔹 MEDICARE ADVANTAGE
Medicare Advantage plans may change their provider networks, copays, maximum out-of-pocket limits, prescription coverage, and additional benefits each year. Some plans may also leave certain service areas.
Before 2027, confirm that your doctors, hospitals, prescriptions, and preferred pharmacies will remain covered.
🔹 SERIOUS HEALTH CONDITIONS
Cancer, heart attacks, strokes, and other major diagnoses can create expenses that Medicare or private insurance may not fully cover. Understanding these possible exposures before a diagnosis occurs can help you prepare.
🔹 SKILLED NURSING AND LONG-TERM CARE
Medicare may cover qualifying short-term skilled nursing facility care for up to 100 days per benefit period, but eligibility requirements and cost-sharing apply. Under Original Medicare, observation time generally does not count toward the qualifying three-day inpatient hospital stay. Some Medicare Advantage plans may use different requirements or waive the three-day rule.
Medicare generally does not cover long-term custodial care or the room-and-board cost of assisted living.
🔹 MEDICARE PART D CHANGES
The annual out-of-pocket threshold for covered Part D drugs increases to $2,400 in 2027. Once you reach that threshold through costs that count toward it, you generally pay $0 for covered Part D drugs for the remainder of the calendar year.
However, medications that are not covered by your plan’s formulary generally will not receive the same protection unless a formulary exception is approved. That’s why reviewing your complete prescription list every year is essential.
BEFORE YOUR 2027 MEDICARE REVIEW:
✓ Gather your updated list of doctors and specialists
✓ List every prescription, dosage, and preferred pharmacy
✓ Review your Annual Notice of Change
✓ Note any changes in your health, finances, or lifestyle
✓ Bring questions about costs, benefits, networks, or coverage gaps
Plan availability, premiums, formularies, networks, and benefits vary by insurance company, county, and individual eligibility. Your review will focus on your specific needs and the 2027 options available in your area.
At Medi65, we help Medicare beneficiaries understand their coverage and prepare for changes with confidence.
