Can a budget Savage Axis actually shoot… or is winter just trying to sabotage me? ❄️😅
In this video I finally take the Savage Axis Budget Build to the range to see how it performs after the latest cost-conscious mods. Outdoor conditions were trash (cold, windy, miserable), so we ditched frostbite and headed to the indoor range instead. Is it ideal for precision? Nope. Is it better than freezing your trigger finger off? Absolutely.
Aiming wasn’t easy, groups weren’t perfect, but the rifle still showed real potential. Best group came in at .62 MOA, and that’s within the first 20 rounds out of the gate. Consistency still needs work, but this thing clearly wants to shoot.
⚠️ Biggest issue so far? The trigger.
Even after a weight reduction tweak, it’s still way too heavy—and that’s definitely affecting consistency. That’ll be addressed in an upcoming video.
Build Details:
Rifle: Savage Axis Budget Build
Optic: Arken SH4 Gen 2
Stock: Magpul
Ammo: Hornady handloads
Chrono: Athlon Rangecraft
Range: Indoor (because winter is rude)
This is just the beginning. As the round count goes up and more tweaks come in, performance should only improve. If you’re into budget precision rifles, Savage Axis upgrades, or proving you don’t need a $2,000 setup to shoot tight groups—this series is for you.
