In today’s episode, we step inside the workshop where the world-famous Kolhapuri chappal is brought to life. From applying farm soil to harden the base, to stitching durable Jawari leather, we captured every detail of the process. The artisans also shared a care secret: apply oil, leave the chappals overnight, and the walk becomes softer within two days. Repeat this every 4–6 months for long life. These chappals can last up to four years, though they prefer to stay away from the monsoon.
Kolhapuri chappals carry deep cultural significance. A small flattened seed inside creates their signature tak-tak sound, and even Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj purchased them back in 1884. Recently, a design clash with luxury brand Prada highlighted how important it is to credit the artisans who keep this legacy alive. You can order these chappals from anywhere in the world even customised it. Each pair crafted with precision and pride.
