Sports drama SPINNING OUT Season 2 is Axed by Netflix as January Jones moves on to a new project

Just one month after the debut of the new competitive figure skating drama series Spinning Out, Netflix announced that it will not renew the series for another run – no Season 2 for Kaya Scodelario and January Jones-fronted Netflix Original. Netflix has been notoriously ruthless when it comes to making decisions on the future of their Original series. A decision to renew or not is based solely on financials.
When a major US television network, like ABC or NBC, might give a second chance to a show that has delivered disappointing viewership numbers just based on positive feedback from viewers or critical accolades, Netflix can easily and quickly axe a show that has not delivered desired viewership numbers.
While the subject of competitive figure skating might be too niche to attract a large audience, as compared to football or basketball, for example, it was the interpersonal drama and issues of mental health that took the center stage in Spinning Out. The show has given a valuable insight into the struggles of people living and competing is sports with bipolar disorder.
