This song is from the first gig in Afel Bocoum's UK tour, at the Mackintosh Church in Glasgow, as part of the Celtic Connections festival, on January 17th 2026, and features a guest appearance from Scottish musician Mark Mulholland.
Originally from Niafunké, in the north of Mali, Afel played for several decades with the legendary desert blues pioneer Ali Farka Touré, to whom this song is dedicated, before earning international recognition as a solo artist with his 1999 debut album "Alkibar" and developing a creative relationship with Damon Albarn which started with the 2002 album "Mali Music" and continued through several subsequent projects.
Mark Mulholland collaborated with Afel on his last album, "Lindé" (2020), and Afel's first concert in Mark's hometown provided an appropriate occasion for the two to play together again, along with the other members of Afel's trio, Ali Bounaly Traoré (guitar, vocals) and Mahalmadane Bountel Traoré (percussion, vocals)
