Time for another Synesthetic Score Video: an advance listen to my remix of "Autopsy" by Cosa Nostra Strings coming out on October 13th.
I dunno why, but I got a big Super Mario Bros. vibe from this track -- maybe it was Lewis Patzner's three crunchy chords that bookend the piece that reminded me of going down a pipe and entering into a new world. Also, one of the mainstay departures from the original is that I threw on a fuzz pedal to Adam Theis' bass guitar to make this musical journey a bit more gnarly.

I kept the spirit of late 80s video-game adventuring alive by adding a few sparkly synths to this track: smatterings of countermelodies and occasionally doubling Adam's trombone melody. With the absence of fuzz bass, the section around Adam's trombone solo has some fun island-vibes, thanks in part to the handful of latin percussion I added to the mix. Try clapping along to the 9-beat phrases in the middle!

About two-thirds of the way through the track we arrive at what I'm thinking of as the "Bowser's Castle" moment. Lewis Patzner is so great at writing metal strings, and I couldn't resist through some down-tuned electric guitar in this passage. I can't quite put my finger on it, but some of the guitar lines I added remind me of Prokofiev, so if anyone has any insights on that, let me know.

The track doesn't meet its end in Bowser's Castle, and we travel via pipe back to our "home base" in Autopsy one last time. We get to enjoy the triumphant sweeping melodies of Shaina and Keith's violin and viola playing before collapsing conclusively down one last pipe.
