Each one of the 15 cords in a single harness bundle has to be threaded through the same hole in each of the 15 slips in the comber board. The harness bundles are each threaded in the correct order. Our Jacquard harnesses are mounted using the 'London System' where the cords are at a 90 degree angle from the hooks to the comber board. Each of the harness bundles in attached to its correct corresponding hook in the Jacquard mechanism above.
This restoration of two of our 19th century demonstration Jacquard handlooms in Paradise Mill, is kindly funded by a grant from the Association For Industrial Archaeology.
